Hey SKILLZ Family,
Why Skillz works?
Some martial arts drills and curriculums focus on building short-term memory, but expect long-term memory results, or have no rhyme or reason whatsoever. This is just scratching the surface of what a martial arts program can do. Drills, such as the ones created in SKILLZ, focus on what’s called “working memory” in the sense that each drill is focusing on two principles: 1) Short-term memory (how to do the drill), and 2) How the drill builds skills that apply to a bigger concept. The more narrowly focused the drills, the better.
Short bursts (15 to 20 minutes) of this sort of activity can help improve a person’s intelligence!
The types of drills found in SKILLZ are utilizing students’ working memory because the students must remember the rules of the drill, and they also must apply their energy into developing age-specific skillsets within that drill, which meets their capacity limits for skill development.
Here’s what happens: they become better at other sports and activities!
Because the same area of the brain that focuses on developing the skill in martial arts is also used when practicing other sports and activities.
